71 Serendipity Place, Saturday Morning

Life on Fandom, Mitchell could get used to. All the vampires with none of the bloodlust, a room full of good kids every week he'd so far not even felt the slightest urge to harm, and a housemate that didn't send his senses into overdrive.

Even if the housemate in question was a twat who could use a good smacking one of these days, but Mitchell was choosing to look at things from the bright side. For one, he now had a credible excuse to make a mess of the place - it upset Arnie. That kept him in good spirits.

That was the entire explanation why he was spending his morning eating old Chinese food from the fridge on their beaten-up couch, surrounded by an old pizza box or two. Life was good.

"It's just a few empty pizza boxes and some cups." Mitchell found a nice counter to lean against while he smoked. "You sound like Arnie. That's not a good look, George."

George shook his head as he began spraying down the countertops. "Well, I'm sorry if I happen to think that a house should be clean. You see a few pizza boxes, I see breeding grounds for all sorts of nasty things."

"And we can't have them taking over the planet."

Rolling his eyes, George found the mop and began mopping down the floor. "This won't take long," he said. "When I'm done, I brought some stuff to make some food. Real food. Please tell me you have pots and pans."

"I think there's some in the cupboard."

Which showed about how much Mitchell actually cooked. "You brought groceries?"

It seemed that he was doomed to George's cooking even if he lived in his own house right now.

George finished up the mopping, ignoring the wet floor as he continued to bustle around the kitchen. "That would be what was in the bags of groceries I brought, yes," he pointed out, going to claim them. "I told you, I need real food."

"Pizza is real food," Mitchell said, automatically. "Wait, what are you making?"

"Risotto al limone con melagrana," George replied. "Real food."

Right. Mitchell wasn't going to make a fool out of himself arguing that, so he took another pull off his cigarette and said, "How's school treating you? Made any new friends?"

"Had a good chat with Dinah yesterday, after class," George said. "I met her back at the picnic, though, so maybe she doesn't count as new?"

"She's still a friend," he said, with a shrug, "Look at you. Talking to women."

George turned to Mitchell, affronted. "I talk to women!" he insisted. "... Sometimes I even ask them out."

That made Mitchell pause mid-smoke. "Did you, now, George?"

"Well, no, but I thought about it!"

George stopped his motions for a second, resting his hands on the countertop. "Did you know that she's telekinetic?" he asked.

"I... can't really tell from looking at her, George," Mitchell said, slowly. "Did she tell you that?"

"Showed me. Pulled a bottle of water to her yesterday." He frowned, first, but then it slowly turned into a bit of a smile. "It really will be okay, here, at the school, won't it? Time travelers and psychics. What's a werewolf and vampire in all that?"

"Exactly." Mitchell was smiling, too. Encouragingly. "We'll be fine out here. We've got everything we want, no one's going to look at us oddly." Beat. "My roommate's a hologram, so it's utterly safe."

"A what?" Poor George. ... Poor George and his broken brain.

"He's a hologram," Mitchell repeated, cheerfully. "Looks and acts human, but he's made of light."

"But didn't- You said he picked things up! How can he pick things up if he's made of light?"

Mitchell shrugged. "Eh. Ask him."

He stalked straight past George to the sink. There was an ash tray here somewhere...

George reached around Mitchell to grab the ashtray from where he'd placed it, above the sink. He handed it over wordlessly. "I suppose- With everything else that doesn't make sense on this island, what's one more thing?"

"That's the spirit."

Mitchell tapped his cigarette over said ashtray. "Thanks," he said, then promptly dumped it somewhere else.

He was a filth wizard.

George glared at Mitchell, but figured this was a battle he was going to lose. Instead, he went and began sorting through the various ingredients he had. "Look, the pots are even clean," George marveled. "That would be because you never use them, I imagine."

"I had pizza," Mitchell said, matter-of-factly. On that count, he yanked open the fridge to see if there was any left over in there. "They feeding you all right up in the dorms," he asked, idly.
