Parents' Weekend.

Mitchell had been happy to avoid the sudden influx of vampires by staying home during the picnic, but he was going to have to come out eventually - if anything, he had promised Kate he'd be around. On Saturday morning, he dragged himself out of the house to get to the office.

He didn't turn on the TV this time. Instead, he was spending most of the time in his office picking at his coffee and watching the door.

This place, with all the vampires hanging around, was starting to make Vicki edgy. But still. Time to do the guardian thing-- the sort-of-guardian thing-- and check in on Tony's classes. He really liked Professor Mitchell, so, here she was.

Waitaminit.

"Yes," Vicki said, rattled again, regarding Mitchell with wariness. "And you're Professor Mitchell?" She flopped her arms in exasperation, and said, "They really do not tell enough about this place before you get here."

"Vicki Nelson." She took a careful step into the office, watching him for a reaction, and had to ask, "And how old would that be?" Pick a year, any year.

"Riiight." This is Vicki, buying that. Wholesale. Yeah. Then again, she was thirty-three plus two years dead, so, who the hell knew? She took the seat anyway, watching him carefully, and said, "So. Tony didn't warn me about this, and he would, so..."

After the confrontation with Chevalier, Vicki was trying to behave, okay? The word 'vampire' wasn't going to be used. Even if there was no heartbeat, and the scent was all wrong. He didn't quite-- feel, like Henry did, but closer than the other three vampire-types she'd fun across so far.

"Hokay... Right." Vicki cleared her throat, looked away, then back, some of the silver in her eyes, but not darkening to black. Not yet. And staying put in her chair. "He liked your class. The movies one. How do you think he's doing here?"

Vicki bridled a little, and her eyes flashed dark, then went back to human-normal. "I'm a friend of his," she said, a little stiff. "I've known Tony for years, since he was a kid... well, more of a kid." Damnit, no one should try to cast her in a maternal role. That was unnerving her as much as the vampire thing. "I picked this place out for him when the company he was working for in Vancouver found out he was underage. It was this or back into stupid foster care."

Which helped, a bit. "Yeah?" Vicki looked away again, to help her control, and found herself fiddling with the armrest of the chair. She stopped herself before she accidentally broke it. "I wonder. He tells me stuff about invasions-- way after they're done, of course." She rolled her eyes. "And he's eighteen now. He could leave." She looked back at Mitchell, troubled. Screw vampire stupidity, this was about Tony. "But at a normal school, he might not finish at all. There's the magic, and the movies, and he might never bother."

"Human. Heh." Vicki smirked a little, eyeing him, then shrugged, trying to accept that. "So you think this place is safe enough for him? He's not going to college any time soon, if ever. If he gets the degree, I'll be satisfied."

"Front lines. Jesus," Vicki said casually, then blew out an unnecessary breath. "Because he's already got his heart set on film school in Vancouver. And he's got a job there as soon as he graduates. It's just a matter of money and as soon as he's earned enough, he'll be working on being the next Francis Ford Coppola. He knows what he wants to be. Anything other than director? Forget it."

Vicki was actually afraid that she knew this one. It meant she'd been hanging out with Tony too long. "That's the pirate movie guy, right? Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone...?"

Which Vicki had to grin at, because she could see why Tony had liked taking classes from him now. "I always liked that one." Until she's started to have to live it. Henry, Celluci. She shook her head, studying Mitchell, who totally failed to be like Sebastien de Ulloa, or Henry, or that Saetan guy. If she'd have to guess, she'd bet that he wasn't that much older than her. "Yeah. So. Tony does magic. He can handle himself. He's got a plan, and a dream." She shrugged her shoulders. "I just want to make sure nothing happens before he gets his shot."

Vicki laughed, then settled into a small, reluctant smirk. "So that's for you too." She grumbled, then said, "Okay. Okay. But if he gets hurt while you're here-- I'm at least asking you what the hell happened." Not holding him responsible. But finding him to ask whose butt she had to kick to fix it. And if being a vampire would be enough. "As the man on the scene. Sorta."
