71 Serendipity, Wednesday Morning

All right, the holiday season was officially here, so Mitchell couldn't put this off any longer.

He was going back to Wales to celebrate Christmas and New Years with George and Nina. A small affair. It wouldn't be festive. Not... too festive, anyway. Annie's death-- vanishing was still too fresh on everyone's minds, and Nina was too dedicated to her search to really let up the severe attitude for more than a moment.

Still, especially with Jack and Kate gone, there wasn't anywhere else he wanted to be for the holidays. So he messaged Bo handwavily that he'd be out of town for a couple of days starting today, and started packing up his things.

"You're going to be a flight attendant?"

At least Mitchell's tone sounded pleasantly surprised?

"Yeah," Kate replied, kind of cautiously but with poorly veiled excitement. "That's the plan. Not that it's much of a plan yet."

"Soaring around the skies, being a citizen of the world..."

You know, the ancient question remained: was Mitchell's approval of your plans really a good thing, or just a prelude to disaster?

Kate honestly did not care. His approval or disapproval alone could not fuck this up.

"Exactly!" Not so much with the veiled anything, anymore. "Okay, a citizen of the world centered around Kansas, but still!"

"Still, you'll be flying all around, right?" Mitchell said.

Largely to Tulsa and St. Louis, but that was for later.

"Don't know yet," she said. "I mean, I'm a little fuzzy on what the scope of SkyKans is."

"Well, maybe when you're done training there, there'll be other companies looking to snap you up."

"Maybe!" Heaven help her if she ever wound up working for Portalocity. "I don't think I'd mind working for some swanky international airline."

"Jetsetting off to Asia and South America..." Look, he was kind of into this idea now.

"Maybe I'd finally even get to go to Japan." Now how was that for an idea? But she was getting ahead of herself. "Of course, I need to get through the selection process and training first."

Selection process...? "For being a stewardess?" he asked. "You mean like an interview?"

"Yeah...?" Kate replied, trailing off at the end with a raised eyebrow. "You don't think they let just anyone become flight attendants, do you? I mean, there's this interview thing today, and then when you start the training you still might not make it in."

Mitchell shrugged, but wisely bit down on a 'it's not exactly that hard a job, is it?' "Any idea what that's going to be like?"
