Office #26, Thursday

Mitchell was going to head home in the evening. It wasn't like he'd been spending the past few days in his house being pissed at George - that would be giving him too much credit. It was more a sort of unwillingness to go back and deal with it if the werewolf threw another fit.

But he couldn't avoid the situation indefinitely.

Still, it was a Thursday, and that meant being in his office, going through lesson plans and trying to ignore the stupid reality programme playing in the background.

"Probably," Mitchell allowed, after thinking about it for a second. "That's probably right around when we get the more fanciful items about people sleeping with each other or turning into narwhals or something."

"No, I think the ones about people sleeping together are when the broadcaster gets bored," Jack speculated. "Though I'll give you the squirrels and narwhals."

"Those squirrels could probably undermine the entire island if they put their little heads to it," Mitchell pontificated. He leaned back in his chair until half the supports lifted into the air, and the whole thing creaked a bit.

"With a twitch of their furry tails," Jack agreed at once. "That is, if the newsreaders didn't think about what they were saying. There's no other place for people to go for information."

"Makes you think," he said, philosophically, and propped his feet up on the desk. "So how are you finding your time as a TA? Am I dogging you enough?"

"It's fine. You didn't even drop the laptop and make me poke out sand with tweezers," Jack said. "Should I be asking for more work?"

"I'm sure I'll be able to make some up if you need it," Mitchell said, grinning a bit. "Even for future classes. 'Oh, Jack, I need some slides for when I run Horror again... in 2015.'"

"Yes, sir, right away, sir, what size would you like them to be?" Jack said.

Not moving a single inch.

"Weird to think about anyone still being here in 2015."

Mitchell shrugged once. "I don't actually know if I'll be here," he admitted, "But I'd like to think I'd pop 'round from time to time." 'From time to time' being anywhere from 'within the next five years' to 'within the next fifty', but...

"I don't usually look back, but I'll probably stop in a few times too," Jack acknowledged. "All the portals seem to go through here anyhow."

And there was Emma, but she'd only be on the island for so long herself.

"Who knows how many times we'll see you yet," Mitchell agreed, grinning slightly. "Or the people you know. Wouldn't be surprised if that guardian of yours winds up passing through, either."

Jack looked briefly surprised, but it seemed to give him an idea. "I meant to introduce you over graduation, but my sister kept me busy," he mused. "He's in Baltimore. I could likely rouse him sometime next week, if you're up for it?"

Mitchell, for his part, looked a bit surprised at the request. "...Sure," he said, finally, "If you'd like me to."

"I would," Jack said, sounding a bit less wobbly. "Or we could wait and see if he just turns up, but that's less likely to go well."

[chosehumanity]

"No, it's fine," he said, waving it off - almost physically - now. "It'll be interesting. Good interesting."

"Interesting either way," Jack said in a low voice, and then smiled. "I should get back to work sometime. Ms. Cabot always has ... filing."
