Honolulu Heights, Friday

So several people had been promised a housewarming party - and George had managed to convince Mitchell not to invite everyone in the whole neighbourhood, so chances were it might not even end in disaster - which would double as a 'welcome back, Annie!' party.

That meant tea. And biscuits. But mostly loads of tea. (And little finger sandwiches; Annie had insisted, claiming they were 'classy'.)

And leis. Annie had been vocal about those, too.

But: now the place was ready, after a week of running around and shopping and arguing and laughing and then running around some more. Time to celebrate.

[[ for those who were invited, and for anyone who thinks they might have been invited! ]]

"Well, we can hope, right?" Kate smiled. Then she tilted her head, thoughtful. "Does Rio have palm trees? 'Cause that's actually where Bod's supposed to be right now. Spring Break and everything. For some reason he's been hanging out in Kansas instead."

Yeah, she had no idea why. Right.

"I think so, but I've never been," Jack shrugged. "It should be, anyhow."

It still wasn't much of a place for Europeans in his world, and Sebastien liked to stay above the equator.

He smirked at her. "He gave up his last trip? I hope you're making it worth his while."
vanillajello: (You say funny things.)

Kate gave that a resounding look of duh.

"My long-distance boyfriend I don't get to see nearly enough is staying with me for an entire week? Yeah, sure, I'm totally not going to have any fun with that."

"That's way more than I needed to know," Jack told her cheerfully. "How is the island treating him, anyhow? All I've heard about lately is boys being girls" -- and that wasn't 'hearing' so much as 'experiencing' -- "and Emma and Bobby trading bodies."

There'd been a text about that. A very pissed off if handwavy text.
vanillajello: (Yeah right.)

Kate's eyebrow quirked at that one. "Uh, well, he got hit with the girl thing ––" And she was going to spare the TMI there. "–– but, uh, what? Why'd Emma and Bobby trade bodies?"

Despite the way she phrased it, she was pretty sure it hadn't exactly been their choice.

"Have you ever tried to get a coherent explanation out of Emma when she's upset?" Jack asked, shrugging. "I've no idea. Whims of the island. Ended after a few days, thankfully."

Jack admitted a bias: He liked Emma to look like Emma.

"I did pick out that it wasn't just them."
vanillajello: (My lip does this thing.)

"Well, that's good, I guess," Kate said, after a brief pause. "You know, that it was an island thing. I kinda doubt either of them liked that much."

"Can't blame them much," Jack said. "It's hard enough to be in the wrong body without looking like a completely different person into the deal. Though I'll confess, I'd try on Emma's powers for a few hours if I could."

He knew she sometimes hated them, but there was still niggling curiosity.
vanillajello: (Well there's this one thing...)

"Ugh, I wouldn't," Kate replied, wrinkling her nose. Then she had another thought. "Well, excpt maybe to try out her powers of persuasion on some of my douchier passengers."

"I wouldn't want it forever, but sometimes it'd just be nice to know," Jack said. "... how bad do passengers get?"
vanillajello: (Never again thanks.)

There was more nose-wrinkling. "Middle-aged dudes acting like little babies over us running out of biscottis?"

"And you aren't allowed to tell them some people have real problems?"

Because that was a sympathetic and useful response.

"At least you met your ... friend from the hotel." A pause as Jack groped for the name. "Evan?"
vanillajello: (Blah blah blah.)

Re: Living Room

[personal profile] vanillajello 2012-02-24 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Kate nodded. "Evan, yeah. Evan is... a shining beacon of hope in a sea of grouchy, cheap commuters." So poetic. "And pretty good company on a five-hour ride back to Kansas, too."

"Which has to be a bonding experience, if anything is," Jack decided. "I'm glad it's not all people whining about biscuits."
vanillajello: (Probably lying.)

"It's not," Kate assured him. "I mean, I do like the job. It's not running a movie theater in Fandom but it's not all bad. Plus Evan's there, like, all the time, and some of the other regulars are okay too, so. It's good."

She just liked whining.
