Spot Off The Causeway on the Mainland Side, Friday Evening

He'd left Mina a message, but he had no idea whether she'd show up, or if she'd bring anyone. Still, staying off the island seemed like a more and more appealing prospect-- that is, if they didn't manage to the bottom of this and quickly.

Mitchell hadn't signed on to be the prime game in a witch hunt.

So now he was out there, waiting. (Maybe even dithering) He'd been trying to place a phone call all day, but he kept going back and forth on the decision. Finally, he hit call.

Waited.

Waited some more.

Wait-- "Seth," Mitchell said, rubbing his forehead, "Get me Herrick on the phone-- Seth. I mean it--" Pause. "Don't even start about Lauren. He's here, isn't he? Is this your work-- he's nipped out for a kebab. Brilliant. I don't care. Seth, has anyone ever told you you're a complete idiot? ... Yeah, there's a reason no one tells you anything-- you're staying out of that hospital. Seth. Just tell Herrick to phone me back. Think you can manage that?"

[[ nfb, but open to anyone who knows where he is. or phone calls ]]

Mina had been trying to ignore the recent clamor on the island, but when Mitchell contacted her she could no longer shy away from it. Excusing herself from her clinic shift, she went to meet him where he'd asked.

"I do hope this is not a confession," she greeted, admittedly a little cooler than normal with her tone.

"I confess that I wouldn't be so stupid as to maul a girl and then just let her go on her merry way," Mina said grimly. "Mainly because I wouldn't be so stupid as to maul a girl in the first place. I haven't fed off anyone since coming to this island. It wouldn't be polite."

The last comment was a little ridiculous, but she stated it with cold, hard emphasis. It was part of how she kept control of her urges, with the propriety.

"Take care of what, exactly?" Mina asked her eyebrow raised. "Are we to form a band of merry men to protect ourselves from a potential witch hunt?"

She scoffed at the idea. Mainly because it seemed ridiculous in concept.

"There is something to also be said about giving an easy target," Mina said. "A combined show of strength may be seen as aggression. Or worse, conspiracy. There is little to trust in an alliance of vampires."

She shook her head. "We are monsters, that is undeniable. What would we have to win?"

"I have not kept it the best of secrets," Mina admitted. "But it is not as if I go about introducing myself for what I am to everyone. Especially now."

"I am just not certain as to how we are to reassure an uneasy public," Mina said. "Even my own activities to satiate my hunger would be considered criminal, at the very least, even if it does not bring about direct harm."

She shook her head. "If you truly believe we must stand together, I will not shy away. But I fear it may do more harm than good."

Mina placed a hand over her lips, restraining herself from laughing at such a ridiculous concept. But then, she concentrated on the first part, and her mood soured.

"So it should be the vampires to deal with a rogue vampire?" she said, thinking this all sounded rather... organized crime of them. Keeping it in the family, etcetera.

[identity profile] funnyways.livejournal.com 2010-02-06 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then perhaps we should concentrate on other efforts," Mina said. "Stressing the need for justice in the more mature fashion, of trials and evidence. The crime is one of an individual, not the kind."

"So your solution is skulduggery," Mina replied. "I do not see how secret manuevering to cover up the problem allows us to gain any trust at all. If we must do anything, it cannot be just vampires tracking down one of... I hardly wish to use the phrase, but... 'our own'."

[identity profile] funnyways.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
"...no," Mina admitted. "I just... do not like the idea. But I shall acquiesce to your plan."

"We should speak with the dhampirs," Mina said. "They will wish to keep informed, of course."

She paused. "Are you aware of the dhampirs?"

"Dimitri and his charge," Mina said. "They are half vampire. Very intriguing... but now is not the time for scientific curiosities."
